If you have type 2 diabetes, you might be concerned that you will have it forever or that it will affect your life negatively and in a big way. The truth is that there is hope. Just because a person is told they have type 2 diabetes, it does not necessarily mean that they will have it forever. This means that with very hard work, strict determination, a partnership with an excellent diabetes doctor it is possible to send your type 2 diabetes packing.

It is not true for everyone, because each person has their own unique state of health. Some people will need diabetes medications in pill form or in the form of injections of insulin, while others will not. Some people will be able to manage their diabetes with nutrition and exercise alone, and will not need medication. What’s more, it is possible that you may change in your diabetes care plan as time passes. You might start out with medication, diet and exercise as part of your diabetes care plan, and later you may change to injections or you may not need anything more than careful eating and regular physical activity to keep your type 2 diabetes under control.

It sounds confusing and it also sounds as if type 2 diabetes is unmanageable, but in reality it is manageable. It simply requires dedication on your part and a partnership with your diabetes doctor. As long as you keep your routine appointments and monitor your eating, you are on the right path. As long as you follow the suggestions which are given to you by your diabetes doctor, which include taking any supplements they say are necessary, testing your blood sugar when advised, and making sure to get regular physical activity, you are headed in the right direction toward the efficient and effective management of your type 2 diabetes.

It might sound like a lot of work, but it is easy to adjust to. You can set alarms on your cell phone to remind you when to test your sugar or take your supplements. You can ask a friend to be a workout buddy and hold each other accountable for exercise, since you both reap the health benefits of exercise (not just you because you have type 2 diabetes).  It is not hard to keep a food journal so that you can recall which foods don’t trigger your blood sugar to spike and then also cause a quick blood sugar crash shortly thereafter. By reviewing what works, you are training your brain to make better nutrition choices, which in turn keeps your blood sugar more steady and on an even keel.

If you think that you might like to just blow off these suggestions, consider the alternative. If you think it is a lot of work to watch what you eat and keep your blood sugar level, so you eat what you want, what do you think will happen? Your type 2 diabetes will definitely become very hard to manage, and it will do so very quickly. If you have a mild case of type 2 diabetes, it can easily worsen and cause more health concerns for you.
